Jax Trail Master Plan & Neighborhood Working Group Meeting 6/21 @ 6pm

Groundwork Jacksonville (A partnership between the City of Jacksonville, US National Park Service, US Environmental Protection Agency and Groundwork USA, Inc. and is part of the Groundwork USA network. Groundwork Jacksonville is one of 20 such trusts across the country, the only Groundwork trust in Florida and the first in the Southeastern United States. Groundwork Jacksonville is the city’s primary non-profit specifically created to clean and redevelop Hogans and McCoys creeks and convert contaminated land into parks, playgrounds, trails, and other public spaces to create the “emerald necklace” championed by famed architect Henry Klutho in the early 20th Century.) is working on a grand plan to connect all the urban core communities in Jacksonville and their current bike and walking trails into one large trail that would allow people to walk and bike throughout the city.

When completed, the plan is to create over 19 miles of trails in the urban core:

The benefits of the project is:

Segment 3 plans to be built along the McCoy Creek right in front of the Church and connect to the Riverwalk:

They are asking for the communities that the trails are going through to provide input on what they want the trail to be for them. Some communities are using the trail as a way to brand their neighborhood or provide recreation and community space. As the representative for the Brooklyn neighborhood, we can make this section something meets the needs and represent our community. As you know much of Brooklyn has been lost and it is up to us to make sure that it is not forgotten or taken for others. As one of the only things left from the original community, we need our voice heard. That is why I am asking for the church to get involved and give our voice for what we want to see in community.

The Neighborhood Working Group Meeting is that chance. The NWG meetings are where the community put their input into the design of the trail and how they want it to represent them. I ask everyone who can to attend the next meeting on June 21 @ 6pm at FSCJ Advanced Technology Center Building (Map is below).

This is a great opportunity to show that we are still here and that our opinions matter in what happens to our community.
